You're Kidding, Right?

Thanks to my colleague Milner, I was able to attend the Northwestern vs. Michigan St. game this past Saturday. I don't think that the hometown faithful will be wanting us back in those seats. We must be bad luck.

The game started well. The Cats were up on the Spartans, 38-3, midway through the third quarter. Michigan State mounted a furious comeback and ended up winning the game on a last second field goal. The final score was 41-38. 38 unanswered points! It was the biggest comeback in NCAA, Division I-A history. I couldn't believe it.

Random Thoughts

-I’ve started drinking diet soda. My taste buds are actually getting used to the taste of aspartame. My new favorite soda is diet cherry coke with diet dr. pepper coming in a close second. I have yet to see results on my waistline (positive or negative). I am convinced that 0 calories does not translate into less poundage.
-Kung Pao chicken for lunch is sounding really good right now. So much for the previous comment about my waistline.
-The Seabury Saints football team is actually undefeated in the Northwestern intramural league. We are 1-0-1 through two games, even though we haven’t scored a TD yet.
-Speaking of teams winning without an offensive TD, the Bears/Cardinals game last Monday night was un-blipping believable. Shame on you who went to bed too early.
-The World Series will be between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. The advertising sponsors are hating life that the NY Mets lost game seven last night. Two small/medium sized market teams in the Fall Classic? Not good for advertising, but very good for baseball.

Resurrection

It has been quite a while since I last posted. I figured that it was about time that I warmed up the engine and got this train back on the tracks. For all I know, I might be posting for no one else but myself for the next few weeks. But here it goes…

Many things have happened since my last entry:

--I now have the adjective “Reverend” before my title Doctor. I was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. on October 1st. It was a wonderful event with Episcopalians, United Methodists, and Presbyterians all present. AKMA preached a great sermon. Good day all the way around. I'll post some pictures later on my Flikr page.
--We recently celebrated my call to Seabury with a special liturgy of installation
--I presided over my first Eucharist (a CUIC service) at Seabury this week. Here is more information on CUIC, which is an acronym for Churches Uniting in Christ—an ecumenical dialogue among many Christian traditions.
--We lost another Lavabo Bowl. For three consecutive years, we have lost to Nashotah House by a touchdown or less. We lost 6-0. We were driving for a game-tying or game-winning TD. We were on about the 10 yd. line when the Black Monks intercepted my throw on a ball that one of our players tipped. UGH!
--My in laws came for my ordination (Oct 1st) and decided to stay until Thanksgiving. As Forest Gump once said, “And that’s all I have to say about that”
