OK, so I have to choose an academic outfit. In this photo, you see the basic choices (along with a couple of fellow PTS alums). So you know, the black robe on either side is identical to the D.Min. gown, and is more user friendly in the context of the church. The middle gown is more for an academic context. Since I AM in an academic context, and I preach enough in PCUSA churches, I could go either way.
Let me know your preferences. Your input is encouraged.
Thanks to my good friend Matt who allowed me to use his photo.
Posted by Frank Yamada at March 22, 2005 02:04 PMGotta like that good-looking guy on the left...
Actually, folks should know, so as to be informed voters on this issue, that if Frank chooses the blue robe, his only official hat option is the four-cornered tam (as shown on Brent in the middle). If he goes with the black robe, he can choose a mortar board (Steve, on the right), or a 4-, 6-, or 8-cornered tam (I'm wearing the 6-cornered tam in the picture).
Posted by: Matt at March 22, 2005 02:55 PMLove the blue. Go for it. Be different....be bold
Posted by: David at March 22, 2005 03:03 PMAnother feature that might not come out to clearly in this picture is the red piping on the black robes. One has the option to have the red piping or not on the black robes. Matt, on the left, has red piping on his gown. Steve, on the right, does not. To my knowledge, there is no piping available for the blue gown.
Posted by: Frank at March 22, 2005 04:46 PMIf you go with the black one, definitely go with the piping. The multi-cornered tam option is kind of cool, but the blue stands out more...
Posted by: beth at March 22, 2005 08:08 PMBy the way, I vote for the blue. It's all about, as Bryan Bibb puts it, "plumage."
Posted by: Matt at March 22, 2005 10:46 PMChoose the middle way -- (a) most people think (erroneously) that this is the Anglican way - and you are teaching at an Anglican institution and (b) more importantly, this place could use a little color!
PS - the details about the hat only increase my enthusiastic vote for the blue!
Posted by: Debra B at March 22, 2005 10:56 PMHey, I know those guys!
It’s like a Hermeneutics Seminar reunion. . . .
Posted by: AKMA at March 23, 2005 01:47 AMI vote for the blue. These things look silly anyways so you might as well go all out!

Posted by: Ryan Whitley at March 23, 2005 02:10 AM"plumage" - heh.
Go for the blue, then you and AKMA (see pic) can sit together.
The Blues Brothers, indeed.
Posted by: Wes at March 23, 2005 05:08 AMBlue. Always go for color.
Posted by: Tripp at March 23, 2005 06:10 PMHey, I've played ball with all these guys. I'd go with the one in the middle!
Posted by: Toni at March 24, 2005 04:48 AMA few more votes were given to me orally--AKMA says, "blue." Brooke says, "blue." Siobhan says, "black with red piping."
