Watched Camp on video last weekend. I can’t believe the controversy surrounding this movie. Some friends hated it. Si and I found it more enjoyable. I wasn’t offended by it. Was entertaining to watch some really talented kids singing and dancing. The drama was a bit high, but I didn’t think that it was out of range from what I’ve experienced at camp or being involved in theater.
Have you seen it? What’s your opinion? Entertaining drama or confused movie with confused characters?
Posted by Heather Voss at May 18, 2004 04:04 PMI just rented it last weekend after hearing about it from a guy who was in Godspell at NSBC.
I thought it was a fun movie, that dealt with issues that many creative kids deal with.
There was contreversy? About what? Yes, it was campy (no pun intended), but that is the style. Acting was ok. But Controversial?
Please explain.

Posted by: justin at May 19, 2004 09:05 AMone of the people with whom i disagree says that "controversy" is too strong a word. right after the movie, we had a big discussion with the other friend about what was good or bad (he listed bad, we listed good). to me, we spent a LOT of time talking about this movie and didn't ever agree on any of the aspects (good or bad). so, "controversy" could have been a little dramatic of me...but, i had just seen CAMP!
Posted by: heather at May 19, 2004 12:48 PMI think there were some 'questionable' elements, but yes, 'controversy' is too strong for the film. Besides, I only watched it for the musical numbers. I believe I read somewhere that they cast non-actors, so I also expected a non-script.
