Funerals

Today, we’re talking about funerals in Liturgical Practicum. There is always the question of caskets. How much do you spend? What is it so expensive? Well, there is an alternative…casket furniture. Morbid? Maybe – but think about the reusability of it! Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Ormonde Plater has a website where he describes building his own casket, which in the meantime is a bookshelf. It's simple, anyone with some tools can do it.

Great idea, because caskets are REALLY expensive. They start at like $600-- most are well above $1000-- and then most cemetaries require you to buy a vault as well, which is another several hundred dollars.

With those kinds of costs, you might as well have something that can serve as furniture for a while...

[Ignoring any theological/doctrinal issues...]

Cremation is way cheaper. Some mortuaries don't require a casket. Instead they use what amounts to a cardboard box, "for the dignity of the body," or so I remember them saying.

But it just wouldn't do to get a box just anywhere. "Hi! I see you just moved in. Do you have a leftover wardrobe carton?"

Ewwwww.
