Seabury Alumni/ae Online Discussion Forum

At the October, 2004 annual meeting of the Alumni/ae Association, a suggestion was made to have a central place for communication between alumni/ae. Lane Hensley, alumni/ae president offered to mount an online discussion group on his church’s home-page. The forum currently has 77 register users and multiple postings to various categories including among others: requests for prayer, stories from the journey, mentoring new graduates, masters and certificate students, doctoral students, faculty, administration, trustees, alumni/ae association local chapters, class agents, topics in the church, ordinations, calls, and other personal news. Recently, the forum has been been moved to Seabury’s server. To join the discussions, go to http://www.seabury.edu/alums/ and click on basics. This will walk you through how to register and join the ongoing forum.

Class Agents

It is the objective of the Alumni/ae Association to identify a class agent for each seminary class. The role of the class agent is to aid the seminary in its communications with all graduates and former students, to help keep all alums in formed about their seminary alma mater, to assist in organizing class reunions and gatherings, and be liasons for Seabury for conferences, meetings, and conventions held in their geographical area. Existing class agents are also identified with their classes in each issue of Crossroads. Volunteers are encouraged. Contact Susan Nanna, in the Alumni/ae Office at 800-275-8235 ext. 42.

Alumni/ae Awards

One of the key items voted on at the annual meeting of the Alumni/ae Association, October 29, 2002 was a staff recommendation to establish awards to recognize alumni/ae achievement and service. The approved recommended awards are:

Alumni/ae Service Award - given annually to a graduate or former student who has demonstrated exceptional support for Seabury by personal giving, by successfully encouraging parish support, through active participation in alumni/ae and seminary programs and in speaking compellingly about Seabury among peers and other leaders of the Church.

Alumni/ae Merit Award - presented annually to a graduate or former student who has brought honor to Seabury through his/her leadership in advancing the mission of the Episcopal Church and through scholarly and professional activities which reflect positively on his/her seminary alma mater.

Nominations for these awards may now be submitted by alumni/ae (and other Episcopal leaders) who are personally familiar with the candidates qualifications. Nominations must be submitted to the Alumni/ae Office and must include evidence of the candidates' qualifications for the award. Once a candidate is nominated, they will remain nominated for succeeding years.

Selection of award winners shall be made by a committee to include the alumni/ae officers (except any who may be candidates), the dean and president of the seminary, the director of development, and the director of alumni/ae programs. Award winners must be selected at least three weeks before the annual meeting and the awards shall be presented at the Eucharist during alumni/ae reunions.

The alumni/ae and development office staff welcome alumni/ae views and suggestions regarding these recommendations.
