The Winslow Lectures and the Installation of Gary Hall

The Winslow Lecture series "State of a Theological Art:Four Theologians in Search of a Hermeneutic" took place April 20-22, with the installation of Seabury's ninth dean and president, Gary Hall on April 21st. Seabury's Professor of New Testament, A.K.M. Adam, gave his inaugural lecture "Poaching on Zion: Biblical Theology as Signifying Practice" on April 21st.

Winslow Lecturers:

A.K.M. Adam taught New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary from 1994 until 1999 at which time he came to Seabury. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University. He is Associate Editor of Catholic Biblical Quarterly and the author of numerous publications including What is Postmodern Biblical Criticism? (1995).

Stephen Edward Fowl has served as Professor of Theology at Loyola College since 2000. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield in 1987. He serves on several editorial boards and is editor (with Michael Budde) of the Ecclesia Project Monograph Series. Among his numerous publications is Engaging Scripture: An Essay in Theological Interpretation (1998).

Kevin J. Vanhoozer became Research Professor of Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1998 where he currently teaches. Prior to that for eight years he was Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies at New College, the Faculty of Divinity in the University of Edinburgh. He holds the Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Among his numerous publications is Is There a Meaning in This Text? The Bible, The Reader and the Morality of Literary Knowledge (1998).

Francis Watson has been Professor of New Testament Exegesis at the University of Aberdeen since 1999. He received the D. Phil. from the University of Oxford. He is a member of the editorial boards of two journals and the author of numerous books and articles. His most recent book is Paul and the Hermeneutics of Faith (2004).

The William C. Winslow Lectures were established in 1926 under the will of the Rev. William Copley Winslow, priest, archaeologist, editor, and author. Past Winslow Lecturers include Harvey H. Guthrie, Jr. (Wisdom and Canon: Meanings of the Law and Prophets) in 1966 and John Dominic Crossan ( Jesus in Gospel: From the Historical Jesus to the Canonical Gospels) in 1993.
