Seabury’s Mission
Statement of Mission & Values adopted by the Board of Trustees, October 15, 1999
The mission of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary is to develop empowered and empowering leaders for Christ’s Church and God’s mission in the world through:
+ practices of learning, worship and community life which transform.
+ distinctive integration of theory and practice with a particular focus on congregational vitality.
+ learning and renewal that sustain leaders throughout their lives and ministries.
Values in Mission:
1. We pursue this mission as a seminary of the Episcopal Church with gratitude for our Anglican traditions and the ecumenical manifestations of the Church today and through time.
2. We seek to be a community of respect for the dignity of all people within an open, diverse, and intellectually stimulating environment.
3. We desire to live out our call in a spirit of partnership and cooperation with congregations, dioceses, and other institutions of learning and mission.
4. We serve the whole Church with a particular focus on the development, life and growth of congregations.
5. We are blessed with abundant resources and opportunities in the academic and missional context of metropolitan Chicago and with collaborators throughout the country.
6. We desire to assist leaders to be energized and faithful in meeting the challenges of change in their lives and in the world.
7. We have a profound hope for the future of this seminary’s service.
