DIPLOMA IN ANGLICAN STUDIES ANNOUNCED

Beginning in Fall 2009, Seabury will offer a Diploma in Anglican Studies, consisting of 8 courses offered at the MDiv or DMin level. This Certificate is designed for people preparing for ministry in the Episcopal Church who are not attending an Episcopal seminary full time.

Each course will be offered in a hybrid format, combining online work with on-campus classes in an intensive format that includes worship and formation. The intensive classes will be held at Seabury either for 3 weekends during the regular semester (once a month, Sept.-Dec. or Feb.-May) or for 2 consecutive weeks in January (Monday – Friday).

For further information, contact Academic Dean Ellen Wondra. Course descriptions are available at Seabury Academics.

RESHAPING ACADEMIC AND THEOLOGICAL EXCELLENCE

Change is a daily event at Seabury. As we move forward with ambitious and exciting plans to reform what seminary means to us, to our faculty and staff, our students and the Church, many pieces are coming together to form a new whole. The Joint DMin program with our partner Church Divinity School of the Pacific is a reality. The announcement has been made to the Church and the world at large, and we are in the process of reviewing our first applications. We’ll welcome our first students in June 2009. Partnerships and strategic alliances with academic leaders such as Northwestern and Garrett are in final stages, with completed agreements just weeks away. And our first lecture for the spiritually and intellectually curious – both clergy and lay – was a gratifying success. Read more below about the event featuring Phyllis Tickle and access links to the videos.

PHYLLIS TICKLE AT SEABURY

We had a wonderful two days with Phyllis Tickle at Seabury with a graduate session Friday morning and 4 sessions held Friday afternoon and Saturday during the day. In spite of a snowstorm, we had roughly 130 in attendance each day. The lectures were lively, engaging and thought provoking. Several attendees were ‘twittering’ throughout the sessions and many more signed up on the Anglimergent website as one resource providing a window into what is happening in the Episcopal based emerging Christianity. We have posted all of her lectures from the 2 days on our website. Like many of those in our audience, you'll find Phyllis' command of history - economic, social and religious, theology, social sciences, trend spotting and geopolitical theory amazing - or as one audience member said, "jaw dropping."
