Robert
Finster is director of music at Seabury and lecturer in
liturgical music. Among the courses he teaches are Liturgical Music
I and II, Use of the Voice, the Colloquium in Sacred Music, and Choir.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Occidental College and
master’s and doctoral degrees in music from the Eastman School in
Rochester. Bob has served as organist/choirmaster of St. John’s
Cathedral, Denver and was the founder and the artistic director for fourteen
seasons of the Texas Bach Choir of San Antonio. The latter group had two
European concert tours and recorded the Rachmaninoff Vespers. From 1974-76
Bob served on the Church’s Standing Commission on Church Music.
Bob is a specialist in chant - Gregorian, Anglican and Russian - and continues
to develop his expertise in the music of the Orthodox churches, particularly
the Slavic styles. He is the parish musician for St. Mark’s Church,
Evanston, and serves as conductor for Ars Musica Chicago, an early music
performing group.
