The Dean's Message

Gary Dean Hall

Dear Alums,

I came to Seabury-Western because I was inspired by the shared vision of people dedicated to learning in the service of God's mission. The vision of Christ's love transforming our world underlies all that we do here to prepare students to face the challenges and opportunities that you encounter in your ministries now.

Seabury continues to be a vital institution for the Church today because of our shared values of study, prayer and work. These values have shaped our lives for generations.

In our annual appeal, I made a request and a promise. The request obviously was for your generous financial support. The promise is that all of us at Seabury have renewed our commitment to continue to make this place a vital resource for you in your life and ministries. We care about what you do. We pray for you daily in chapel.

In order to fulfill that promise, we need to listen to you and nurture opportunities for dialogue.

Each one of you has contributed to the on going transformation of each other and this place. Your days with us may have been times of joy, confusion, pain and expectation as you participated in the opportunities for growth, learning, and becoming open to Christ's transforming presence in the world. Your ministries are what the Seminary is finally all about. We want to both celebrate them and to promote a deeper ongoing conversation between the school and its graduates about ways we can support you in your work.

Please know that I welcome conversation—in writing, on the phone or here in person—about what we can do better to assist in the development of your ministries.

May God continue to bless your life and work.
