We have received word of the death of the Rev. John Charles Bettmann ('70), who died at the age of 67 on April 18 in Ashville, NC. He graduated from Elmhurst College in 1967 and was awarded a Masters in Divinity from Seabury Western in 1970. He was ordained deacon in the Diocese of Chicago in 1970 and was ordained priest that same year. He served in various Episcopal parishes, most recently as a priest associate at St. Mary's in Ashville. Prior to that he was rector of St. Paul's in Carlinville IL and vicar of St. Peter's in Chesterfield. He was dean of the Northwest Deanery of the Diocese of Springfield from 2004 to 2010. He also served at Christ Church Cooperstown, NY; St. John's Centralia, IL; St. Luke's Ballwin, MO; St. Timothy's and St. Augustine's in St. Louis; Holy Cross in Fairview Heights; and Christ Church and St. Anne's, Collinsville, IL. A Requiem Mass was held on May 3 at St. Paul's in Carlinville with Bishop Daniel H. Martins of the Diocese of Springfield celebrating.
