Grant to St John's enables Wagner Sherer to go on sabbatical

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chicago has received a grant of $35,600 to enable its rector, The Rev. Kara Wagner Sherer ('03), to participate in the 2012 National Clergy Renewal Program funded by the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. It is one of 147 congregations across the country that will support their ministers in the program, which allows pastors to step back from their busy lives and renew their spirits for the benefit of their ongoing ministries.  During the May-August Sabbatical, she will be focusing on creative renewal activities, both alone and with her family. Wagner Sherer will go on a month long retreat at the Society of St. John the Evangelist (an Episcopal Monastic community in Cambridge, MA), study creative writing at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and with her family attend cultural programming in Chautauqua, NY, and visit a Benedictine convent in France.
