George A. Musicians gathered at Samford University in Birmingham, AL in July for the annual conference.

Former Seabury Director of Development Marcus Young died on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. A long time member of St. Augustine's Wilmette, Marc was moved to the hospice unit of North Shore Evanston Hospital and died peacefully just a few hours later, one day after his 83rd birthday. He was lucid to the end, even participating in the prayers of the Last Rites. The Requiem Eucharist is at St. Augustine's on July 13, and a private interment will take place at a later date.

Woman's Board member and former St. Mark's Sr. Warden Mrs. Prentiss (Mary) Sawyer died at her home in Arizona on July 6. The funeral will be at St. Philip's in the Hills in Tucson where she will be interred. A memorial service at St. Mark's Evanston will be announced at a later date.

The Rev. Canon Gordon McBride ('83) died Saturday, July 10 in Casper, Wyo. He was given last rites Friday, July 9 by The Rev. Margaret Babcock, formerly of Arizona but now the retired Canon of Ministry and Congregational Development for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming. McBride was hospitalized in Casper on Tuesday, June 29, where he was treated for difficulties related to his lungs and ability to breathe while on vacation with his family. Ordained in 1984, McBride became rector of Grace St. Paul's in 1985 and served there until his retirement in 2008. He was the Diocesan Commission on Ministry chair at the time of his death, a position he held for many years.

The Very Rev. Terry Allen White ('85), Dean of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas City since 2004, was elected Bishop of Kentucky on June 5. He has also served as rector of Trinity Church, Highland Park, IL from 1995-2004; associate rector, Christ Church, Winnetka, IL from 1991 to 1995; and vicar of St. Paul’s Church, Plymouth and St. Boniface, Chilton, WI from 1987-1991. He was curate of Christ Church, Winnetka, IL from 1985-1987.

We have received word of the death of the Rev. Kristin E. Richardson ('90), who was canonically resident in the Diocese of Nevada. She died May 7 of ovarian cancer in Eugene OR. Our prayers go out to her husband John; sons Mark and John; her sister Karen Petersen and two grandchildren.

The Rev. Zabron A. "Chip" Davis III ('90) will become Canon to the Ordinary to the Rt. Rev. Don. E. Johnson, Bishop of West Tennessee, on July 1.

The Rev. Vicki Zust ('97) is Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Williamsville, NY.

The Very Rev. Richard M. George ('55), Dean Emeritus of the Diocese of Arizona, died on May 5. He was ordained deacon in Chicago in June 1955 and priest in Quincy in December 1955. Fr. George served congregations in Quincy, Chicago, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Peoria, Illinois, and Phoenix. Our prayers go out to his wife, Mary Alice. He is also survived by his children, Mary Elizabeth (Madison, WI), Thomas (Winthrop, WA), David (Seattle), and Andrew (Phoenix); his brother Michael (Belvidere), his grandchildren Tristan, Uriah and Nolan, Ella Mae, and Allison and Ryan, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of wonderful friends from high school, Grinnell, Seabury, his parishes and clerical community, and the Terraces of Phoenix, his final residence with Mary.

The Rev. Mercy G. Hobbs ('95) has been called to be Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pierre, South Dakota and begins her ministry there on May 30, Trinity Sunday. Her husband, the Rev. Canon David P. Hussey ('95) will be working as the full-time Canon to the Ordinary based in Pierre.

The Rev. Mark Juchter ('03) has notified us of the death of his father, the Rev. Deacon John Juchter, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Please remember Mark and his family in your prayers.

The Rev. Dr. Gwynne Wright ('04) was awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana on May 7. She had studies at Oxford University as part of the doctoral program.

The Rev. Dr. Jane Clark ('05) was awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana on May 7.

The Rev. Bradley Pace ('08), Associate at Trinity Church, Wheaton, has accepted a call to be the Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown, Ohio. His last Sunday at Trinity Wheaton is June 13; and his first Sudnay at St. John's is July 18.

The Rt. Rev. Sandy Hampton (’66) just completed two years as Assisting Bishop of the Diocese of Oregon. He commuted to Oregon every two weeks from his home in Anacortes, Washington in the Diocese of Olympia. His service ended with the Consecration of the Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley as Bishop Diocesan of Oregon.

The Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley ('81 '05) was consecrated as 10th Bishop of Oregon on April 10, 2010. Bishop Hanley is a former Seabury-Western Trustee.

The Rev. Lane Hensley ('81) has been called as Rector of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, California. Currently Rector of Church of the Transifguration in Palos Park, Illinois, he begins his new ministry on July 18. He is a member of the Seabury-Western Board of Trustees and a former President of the alumni/ae Association.

The Rev. Dr. Peggy Hemphill (’86 ’03) was recently married to Chicagoan, John Lannan at St. Andrew's Chapel, Chicago, on February 13th. Those officiating at the ceremony were The Rev. Thomas Hurley of Old St. Pat’s, Chicago and The Rev. Fran Holiday of All Saints’, Chicago. The Lannans will be living at 1841 South Calumet Ave., Chicago, Il 60616.

The Rev. Anne Reed (MTS ’98) has left the Diocese of Western Michigan after seven years and serves as Canon for Mission in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. She is responsible for diocesan mission initiatives and transition ministry in the diocese.

The Rev. Monique Ellison (’02) was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for Marriage Equality Activists at the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance meeting on April 20, 2010. She is co-vicar at Church of the Resurrection in Baltimore, Maryland and Associate for Client Development and Evangelism with Listening Hearts Ministries.

The Rev. Deb Seles (’02) has accepted a call as Rector of Ascension Church in Twin Falls, Idaho. She begins there on June 6.

The Rev. Dr. Gwynne Wright (’04) has been called as Interim Rector of St. James the Less in Northfield Illinois, beginning Sept. 1. She is a Seabury-Western Trustee and serves as Secretary of the Board.

The Rev. Mary MacKenzie (’05), has been called as Young Adult Missioner and Assistant Priest at Christ Episcopal Church in the University District of Seattle, Washington. She ministers with young adults, who are mostly graduate students, young professionals, young families and folks getting started in life.

The Rev. Jami Anderson (’05), has accepted a call to serve two churches in Wyoming - St. Andrew's in the Pines in Pinedale and St. John the Baptist in Big Piney. She will start there sometime in July after serving two Nebraska churches for the past five years.

The Rev. Judy Rois (DMin preaching ’06) is Rector of Christ Church Deer Park in the Anglican Church of Canada in Toronto. She is on the Adjunct Faculty in Divinity at Trinity College, Toronto, and teaches Introduction to Homiletics.

The Rev. Cliff Haggenjos (’06) has been named Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roseville, California. They are worshiping in the Barbara Chilton Middle School as they build a new sanctuary in the West Park area of Roseville. The parish anticipates moving into their new sanctuary in November.

The Rev. Deborah R. Brown ('08) has been appointed Diocesan Presiding Youth Missioner for the Diocese of Rochester by Bishop Prince Singh and Associate Priest in Charge of St. Mark’s and St. John’s in Rochester. She begins on May 1st.


Former faculty member Lilian "Flower" Ross died on Monday, November 30, 2009. She and her husband Charles Winters taught pastoral theology at Seabury in the 1980s and 1990s. at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. Her funeral was at All Souls Cathedral, Asheville, in December. She is survived by her husband, Charlie.
