About Bexley

When we asked Bexley Hall’s students and faculty to describe the seminary in a single word, they called Bexley intimate, friendly, diverse, and accommodating, as well as liberal, postmodern and overtly inclusive.

These adjectives catch the flavor of this unusual Episcopal seminary on the campus of Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1823, Bexley was the westernmost of the church’s first three seminaries. Today, thanks to our rich and rigorous academic offerings, our small and supportive campus community, and our innovative partnerships with other schools, we remain on the cutting edge of our church.

We believe that God is always calling the church to reform itself, while remaining true to the essentials of two thousand years of tradition. Our mission is to prepare students as fully and completely as possible for Christian ministry in a pluralistic world.

We offer an M.Div. that is a three-year program for persons preparing for the ordained priesthood of the Episcopal Church. This program combines deep academic study and reflection with spiritual and pastoral formation and the practice of ministry in the local church. You'll take courses in the Scriptures, Church History, Contemporary Society, Theology and Ethics, Liturgics and Preaching, and Ascetical and Pastoral Theology. The integration of your coursework, your spiritual life and your pastoral experiences are the hallmark of a seminary education, and equips you for effective ministry in today's Church. Learn more.

About Seabury

Seabury’s journey of discernment has resulted in a vision of being an educational community, grounded in the Baptismal Covenant, that proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the church and the world.

We are working to embody that vision by becoming what’s next in a seminary. Our theological education includes single classes, diplomas and doctoral degrees. We offer events, programs and classes for intellectually serious church leaders, seminarians, and pilgrims and seekers. As we become an innovative 21st century seminary, our education remains academically rigorous and rooted in the Episcopal tradition.

Our mission is to embody generous Christianity, grounded in the Baptismal Covenant and the Episcopal tradition, as we educate lay and ordained women and men for ministry, build faith communities, and enrich people in their faith. Here’s what we are doing right now to accomplish that mission:

We offer a Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Development in collaboration with Church Divinity School of the Pacific, built on Seabury’s great strength in this area and expanding to incorporate new innovative courses and programs. We also offer a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching in collaboration with six other seminaries in the Association of Chicago Theological Schools. Persons may also earn a Diploma and a Certificate in Congregational Development.

The Bexley Seabury Federation offers an Anglican Studies program. Learn more.

Seabury also offers non-degree courses and programs for lay leaders and clergy. Courses—some offered in conjunction with our D.Min. and Anglican Studies programs—include ministry development, liturgy, Anglican theology and ethics, and Islam. Learn more here.

Our special continuing education events, for lay people and clergy, include courses, special events, and seminars. Visit Events at Seabury to learn more.
